The Nominations Committee (made up of 2 parents from the Links Group, 2 College members and 2 current trustees) is very happy to put forward the list of parent nominees for the Board of Trustees 2009-2010, to be ratified at the AGM on Wednesday 12 August. They are:
New nominees:

Gregory Mann, a parent in Kindergarten and Class 3.
Current trustees willing to serve again:
Jacqui Thorold, parent in Class 6
Gonzalo Aguilar, parent in Class 4 and Class 8
Maurita Weissenberg, parent in Class 3.
The rest of the BOT is made up of teachers representing all sections of the school. The bursar and the treasurer of FinCom are co-opted to the board, which meets monthly. All parents are encouraged to attend the AGM – the forum for parent participation in the life of the school. There will be a review of the past year, with reports covering all aspects of the functioning of the school, and parents will be able to ask questions and to comment. The minutes of last year’s AGM are available from the office – please speak to Lesley or Faiza.

THE CLASS 12 PRESENTATIONS AT CONSTANTIA WALDORF SCHOOL
The Class 12 projects mark the culmination and the end of the Waldorf School curriculum. For some of these pupils, this might have been a 15 year journey which started in Kindergarten. For those of you who are new to Waldorf or don’t know much of what happens in the High School as yet, Class 12 pupils are challenged to set themselves a task of some magnitude and given 6 months to complete this task. These projects offer the individual an opportunity to undergo both an inner and an outer process and is somewhat a rite of passage. The projects consist of 4 main parts: Detailed research on the chosen task; writing a journal of the whole process and binding this into a book; the practical project work itself; and the presentation of the project to the community.
You are all invited to this year’s Project Presentations at Constantia Waldorf, FRIDAY and SATURDAY night from 6h30 to 10h30pm.

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT MICHAEL OAK
The Trustees are responsible for the legal aspects and financial wellbeing of the school. They meet monthly, receiving reports from all the Implementation Groups (Pedagogical, Personnel, Admin and Finance, Public Relations, Buildings and Maintenance) as well as from the College of Teachers. Trustees are nominated to serve for one year, but it is preferable that they serve for longer, so that there is continuity on the board. Our constitution stipulates a minimum of three teacher members and the rest of the Board are parent trustees – usually 4 or 5. These members are nominated by the Nominations Committee (two members each from College, the current Board of Trustees and the Links Group). This committee will submit their list of nominees to the current Chair of the Board of Trustees, who will present it for approval at the AGM. The new Board can also co-opt members where needed.

You are invited to participate in the process of choosing parent members of the Board of Trustees. If you know someone who has the interests of the school at heart; is willing to become more involved with its management and who would make a suitable member of the Board, please nominate them (with their consent) using the form attached to this Leaflet and hand it in at the Office, duly signed by both of you. Nominees should have been parents at Michael Oak for at least a year and preferably have been involved in one of the Mandate Groups or as a Link, so that they have a fair knowledge of the workings of the school. The Handbook for Trustees is available from the Office and we ask all prospective nominees to read it before they accept their nomination.
